Gerd Koerber: Victory belongs to team

Triple European Champion in truck racing (1992, 2002, 2003) can add one more title to his achievements. On Sunday in Nurburgring, just after 5 p.m., he became the winner of prestigious International Championship of Germany. In addition, he defended last year’s victory on the legendary circuit.
What would the comparison of the two races look like?
"Every victory has got its undeniable value. But I would say this year it was a little bit more difficult. If I was to win German title, I had to win and defeat Markus Bosiger by six points. Besides, I finished third on Saturday. I have never acquired so many points during one race weekend in Nurburgring."
Do you think you could win by total of times, if you drove a few seconds faster in the first interrupted race?
"On Saturday I was happy to drive at least somehow. Certainly it was not about trying to accelerate. If I tried, perhaps I’d get locked in mental home. As I already said, I have never in my career experienced such a crazy race."
Nevertheless, the situation in team did not at first sight look optimistic on Friday?
"We drive for points only on Saturday and Sunday. Nobody cares about Friday situation. Yes, we had certain technical problems. But with David we have an extraordinarily strong team of people behind us who don’t do truck racing just to get a salary to their bank accounts. Each of my victories is at the same time also their triumph."
Although you are losing 10 points behind Jochen Hahn, are you the best adept for winning title?
"It is not important to be an adept for title but to win the title. Nurburgring proved we are on the right way. We are only in the middle of Championship so it is too early to talk about title."
