David Vršecký: Quite Wet Premiere!

Even though incredible at first sight, David Vršecký is just celebrating a decade of truck racing. And as he admits, his beginnings were far from easy!
A decade ago David was just preparing for his very first race of the European Cup, held in Dijon, France. His only experience was testing at the Most track. And suddenly he was facing the crude reality of several dozen trucks behind the starting line. And as if that was not enough, it was pouring cats and dogs! "I will never forget about my first race. I remember how I kept approaching Martin Koloc trying to explain him it was not good for me to drive my first race on a wet surface. Martin looked at me calmly and said without the slightest trace of excitement Be calm, it is just a little slippery. And I was off the track after every other curve," remembers David. Another memory of his first season in the cabin of SISU comes from Nurburgring. "For the whole season everybody kept telling me how important it was to introduce myself well in Germany. And so I did. In the Saturday cup race my cabin caught fire. What a day!"
At that time David certainly did not think of continuing with truck racing for ten years. Especially when after the 1998 season he was "only" offered the work of testing pilot. "I was looking forward to the new truck. Martin told me at the end of the season that he put me on the racing track too soon and so I should only be testing for a couple of years. Today I must admit he was right."
Since his return to the racing tracks in 2002 David has been among the truck elite, more and more often mentioned as a potential future European Champion. Especially after last year ´s third place, when he only lost important score points at the very end of the season (Zolder, Most, Le Mans) due to technical problems. "But that is the racing challenge. I am not prepared to make strong statements. Last year I had my so far best season and improved race by race. I am going to continue with this trend this year again."
