Yesterday ´s race at Náměšť nad Oslavou opened a new season of the International Championship of the Czech Republic in Up Hill Racing, attended among others by Václav Janík, a driver of the friendly Nutrend Racing Team, with his BMW M3. The opening race was exceptionally tragic indeed! An incident in the finish killed Miroslav Fajkus on monopost Lola T99/50!
Last year David Vršecký took part in several Up Hill Races of the International Championship of the Czech Republic as an exhibition driver with his racing special, including the one at Náměšť nad Oslavou. "The course is very short and very dangerous. At the end there is an uneven piece of ground that can play badly with the car. I drove the bit at 190 km/hr and I had enough to do indeed. When I told Vašek Janík, he told me a story of a near miss, when one of the drivers nearly lost his legs there. I told to myself that it was a killing section… In addition the Up Hill races are often held on ordinary country roads, patched all over, with four types of bitumen taking turns within a kilometre. If Miroslav Fajkus drive his formula at 260 km/hr, his car jumped over the bulge and threw him against a tree in the full speed, then he had no chances to survive."
In the words of the third best driver of last year ´s truck championship the race at Náměšť nad Oslavou yesterday presented an exceptionally tragic proof that even the "innocent" domestic championship is extremely demanding for the drivers and the least mistake may end with a fatal injury. "There are people believing that motor sport is about sitting comfortably in the car, taking a nice ride, collecting the gold cup and going home again. The truth, however, is somewhere else. We cannot afford unnecessary mistakes."
