Where else but in Barcelona? This very question may be posed before the start of the opening event of the European Truck Cup at the Catalonian course by David Vršecký. He won in the Catalonian capital three past years in succession and he is not prepared to lose the tradition this year.
The fact that David prefers the more "adrenaline" tracks in Nogaro or Jarama, where he was not so successful in the past seasons, does not affect this at all. He does not mean to classify Barcelona as a primitive course. "The track was designed for Formula 1 racing, it is hard to overtake there. I remember the year 2006. I and Gerd had the quickest trucks, but our start was not very good and Adam Lacko zigzagged in front of us like a hare. We had no chance," remembers David, who thinks that his greatest rivals will be his colleague Markus Bosiger and Antonio Albacete. "The latter managed to win there twice and so he will do his best. I wonder how Jochen will succeed with his new vehicle this year."
Barcelona has its attractions for the current European champion Markus Bosiger as well. Last year he managed to win his first race in Buggyra colours there, giving a clear answer to all doubting about his ability to replace the to-date team star Gerd Koerber. "I value that victory very much. For the first time in my truck career I was part of a professional team and I managed to win the very first race. Quite a good introduction," confirmed Markus, who would like to follow his last year ´s win of 55 score points. "There will be more drivers with such an ambition on the track, though. When I could see David ´s testing vigour, I came to believe that my position will be far from easy."
