Before the last event on the legendary French racetrack, cards had been dealt quite explicitly. The Spaniard Albacete was a clear champion and final placements two to four remained to be at stake, however the second Allgäuer had a quite wide margin ahead of his pursuers. So, only maximum success of our drivers, provided that the Austrian would fail partially, could push one of them, especially Gerd, to be a runner-up.
But our chances fell low even after the timed practice, which developed quite unusually. It took almost one third of available twenty minutes to organize nearly forty vehicles on the racetrack. Another "closure to traffic" came immediately after the first lap, when the practice was stopped for 11 minutes because of a crash of one of outsiders. After that, the field set out on the track to race against the chronometer. But after one lap, the practice was terminated, as if everybody could exploit the full scheduled time. Gerd and David belonged to those luckless persons, who only were about to run their best times.
Gerd was better off considerably, because he started into the qualification race from the second row, while David from the fourth row only. Gerd had the best reaction to green lights and he overtook Hahn, his fellow-countryman, passing him by on the outer side of the first turn. However, Hahn "repaid" him immediately in the next bend with a push, which sent Gerd to deep sands outside the track. Gerd did not succeed to dig out of deep sand and he ended the qualification race just after a promising start. Also David started badly, because green lights went on, when he was only in the turn before the starting stretch. During the first lap he leastways succeeded to get to the seven place and trail Vojtíšek closely, and in the fifth lap David even overran him. Hahn was penalized for his dangerous driving by forced passing the pit lane and fell down to the third place. Albacete, the early cup champion, rejoiced in his easy victory, followed by the Swiss Bösiger on the second place. Even Allgäuer was exceedingly satisfied, when Gerd was knocked out of the game, because in the very end he defended by a nose his fifth place ahead of David and so he had the title of proxime accessit within his grasp.
Gerd started to the cup race from the 37th place only, where this starting position was his worst one in his rich truck-racing career. This time, Allgäuer got off at best, when he succeeded to get from the third row to the lead and he dictated the pace in following six laps. David was tenth at the beginning, but in the middle of race he was already sixth. At that time, heavily finishing Gerd succeeded to wade through the field to the first ten. Another change in standing was caused by Allgäuer's mistake, for which he fell to the third place behind Bösiger and Albacete. Three laps before the finish, joy surely returned under Allgäuer's helmet due to Bösiger's technical defect, and thanks to it Allgäuer could win points for his second place. Gerd was strongly supported by densely filled stands and he was sixth at the finishing line just behind David and in addition to the fastest lap in the race he beat another record. Namely, he improved 31-times his standing step by step in a single race - nothing similar happened throughout the entire history of truck racing!!! Nevertheless, he did not jubilate after Saturday, because the final second place in 2005 cup belonged definitely to Allgäuer. On that account, the last question had to be answered in the last competition day of this race season: will Gerd Körber with his blue Buggyra be a crown prince or will it be David Vršecký with his blue Buggyra? The threefold German champion of the Old Continent settled to sleep with a lead of four points...
The Sunday's program was markedly affected by fog, and the Timed Practice started as late as 14 o'clock (2 pm). Firstly, Gerd was warmed up at best and he reached the new racetrack record. David took it in his stride and even he succeeded to get under the magical limit of 2:10,500 minutes per one lap. Gerd won his pole-position by a narrow margin of 28 thousandths of a second! The further destiny of this race was decided after another hour by marshals, who disqualified David for speeding. Nevertheless, it is difficult to understand, why misconducts of other drivers, who exceeded the speed limit much more markedly, were classified as "system errors", and so they got away unpunished...
Gerd won the qualification race in a start-finish manner before Hahn and Albacet. David improved during seven laps from the thirty-fifth place even to the ninth place. His further improvements were stopped in the penultimate lap by the broken propeller shaft. So, his dream about the final third place ended in thick smoke, although the cup mathematics gave him a long chance of a kind. The "denouement" came very soon, because David finished only two laps in the cup race. Then he again reported via his walkie-talkie to his mechanics about an early end of his truck. The technology itself decided about the final result, which is however very promising in matter-of-fact terms for next seasons. Moreover, the Martin Koloc's wish that at least one truck would reach a podium placement was fulfilled. Another positive aspect is the 14th place of Adam Lacko, who participated only in three races of total ten ones. And it is worth mentioning that, besides Allgäuer, three drivers among four best ones were running Buggyra trucks sometime in last years in the Super Race Truck Class.
