6th Race of the FIA European Truck Racing Cup 2003

After a considerable break, which was even extended because of the cancelled race in Finland, best racing truck drivers gathered at the Most circuit in northern Bohemia. The preparation of the team for this particular race was especially meticulous, as it is the case every year. Besides the participation in the race itself it was also necessary to prepare good facilities and support for almost a thousand specially invited guests.

The results from Germany were fantastic and our team was starting the practice on Saturday with optimism and concern at the same time. The triple triumph of our brand at Nürburgring might have suggested that it would be just easy to repeat it. The initial practice was most successful for David. He made second best time after Östreich. Gerd was fifth, behind Antonio. The differences among the pilots were however very small, just thousandths of second. Gerd became the leader in the second free practice. David was third and Antonio fifth. In the last test run Gerd was second ahead of David and Antonio again finished fifth. In the final timed practice Gerd had a very fast start and already in the second lap he made the best time ensuring the best position on the qualifying race grid for him. The ranking behind him was changed several times. Eight minutes before the time limit David was classified fifth. After the last pit stop, however, he again began to struggle with the time and indeed, the resulting time placed him to third position. David lost mere 0.004 s to Östreich, who was second. His neighbour in the second row was Adam Lacko with Tatra. Antonio finished fifth.

The warm-up of Sunday was an opportunity for David to show his qualities. He made a record for one lap being the only one who managed to be faster than 1:55.00. The start of the qualifying race was rather dramatic. Lacko was struggling ahead, closely followed by Antonio from the third row. David was stuck among the other pilots and failed to find the way how to improve his fifth position. Gerd kept the pole position during the eight laps of the whole race and could even afford to slow down a bit in the end. Behind him, however, the ranking constantly kept changing. In the beginning Östreich was third but made a mistake and fell back to the very end of the whole group. Red and blue Buggyras started to chase the leading pilots. In the sixth lap Antonio managed to overtake Lacko but David did not have time enough for the same manoeuvre and could not do anything else but to finish just behind him. Finally David could be delighted from the third place after all, because FIA delegates approved the protest of our team and penalized Lacko with 20 s for early start. After the start of the final race there was a hard struggle too. Gerd went fast to the pole position and started to rapidly ride away. David had several hard collisions with Lacko and Östreich, and finished spinning in one of the bends with engine dead. His position appeared hopeless but the race was stopped and the start was repeated. Gerd was successful for the second time as well, accelerated ahead with Östreich and Antonio behind, and won the race leading from start to finish. The only change in ranking occurred in second lap when David overtook Lacko and got to fourth place.

In total ranking Gerd strengthened his first position ahead of Östreich, David is third and Antonio fourth.
