Most 2008

6th race European Truck Racing Championship 2008

When there is nothing impossible for Buggyras!

Vršecký is the leader of the championship with the advantage of 22 score points before Bösiger. Albacete was heavily defeated in Most and now loses 40 points after Vršecký three races before the end of the season!

There are records which may only be exceeded in the best case. This is exactly what the drivers of the Buggyra International Racing System team managed to do in Most. David Vršecký and Markus Bosiger ranked the first and the second or vice versa in all measures rides of the weekend. Thus the sixth racing weekend was an internal battle of the Buggyra team ending in a draw, 54:54.

The Most racing weekend was commenced on Friday afternoon by a couple of free trainings. The best results were achieved by the pair of truckers of the Buggyra International Racing System Markus Bösiger – David Vršecký. Both truckers openly expressed their satisfaction after Friday. “David prepared my truck excellently in the course of yesterday ´s testing. I would like to express my thanks to him, said Boesiger, evidently in good spirits. Vršecký accepted his compliment without problem: “What could I do?! Markus is an elderly gentleman and there was no point having him travel al the way to the Czech Republic because of one hour of testing. He must reserve his forces for racing.“

After the Saturday warm-up, managed best by Vršecký followed by Bösiger, the truckers started at 11:00 a.m. their time practice. Since the very first meters David and Markus leaved no doubt about their intention to start the qualifying race from the first row. Immediately in the opening “live” round they broke the barrier of 2:02.00 min! “Mario told us before start that if we managed he would take us to the pits. He somehow forgot about us ,“ said Vršecký after the practice. “We eventually completed the rest and trued new things. “David ´s form is fantastic, I will have a difficult position in the qualifying race,“ guessed Markus Bösiger. “I am satisfied with the first row, of course. I will start by the side of a very quick driver, who, however, respects a quicker rival.“ The second row was secured by Albacete and Hahn, and the group of the six quickest truckers was completed by Belloc and Altenstrasser.

David and Markus entered the eight-round qualifying race as the hottest favorites and they performed the role to the full. The Roudnice trucker decided his victory over his fellow racer immediately after start by taking the lead. “I started well, but David made perfect use of the pole position. I prepared for an attack of the first position all the time, but David did not provide the slightest space for it,“ commented Bösiger on the course of the qualifying race. “To have Markus behind the back is far from easy. He drove excellently, and so I was only sure of my victory a couple of meters before the finish,“ said David after the race adding that he does not deny his rope of the hottest favorite of the cup race. “I am no buck passer and I want to win. But there will be more of us wishing to win.“

In addition to the main protagonists Vršecký and Bösiger the qualifying race also featured other drivers. The only one managing to keep pace with the Buggyras, at least in the first part of the race, was the driver finally ending on the third rank, Antonio Albacete. It must be said that the Spanish racer drove very tactically, for he soon came to understand that he had no chance against the Bugyras at that race and tried to secure points for the third ranking at least. The first six drivers reaching the finish further included Hahn, Altenstrasser and Belloc.

If the audiences came to Most to witness a dramatic truck plot, they must have been disappointed by the progress of the Saturday cup race. On the other hand the fans of David Vršecký and the Buggyra International Racing System team were happy. Virtually in the middle of the first round it was already clear that unless the technology interfered, the historically first double of Buggyras in Most was unshakable. “I and Markus agreed before the race that we would squeeze the best of ourselves and that the quicker one would be given the floor,“ said Vršecký after the race, rejoicing of the first victory after four second rankings on the domestic track. “But I am exhausted. To have Markus behind for the full nineteen rounds is far from easy. He is machine exact and one knows that one cannot afford the slightest mistake.” The acting European champion of last year returned the compliment to his fellow. “David drove excellently and simply decided he would not let me win. The result of the race was decided by the time practice. I have a lot to improve.“

The clear superiority of Buggyras was confirmed by the fact that the third Albacete arrived in the finish with the loss of over eight seconds behind the winner.

The full score achieved on Saturday also reflected in the overall ranking. David Vršecký increased his advantage over the second Albacete by 26 points and the third Markus Bösiger loses 28 points behind Vršecký.

On Sunday the traditional warm up ended up best for the V+B pair gain. Fifteen minutes before eleven the time practice started. Since the very first round the Buggyras made it clear that they were not willing to lose their privilege. The lead was taken by Vršecký followed by Bösiger. Their start was not caught up by Albacete, but, surprisingly, by Jochen Hahn. Markus Bösiger was not ready to accept the development of the situation, though. “Yesterday I said I would need to rethink the time practice. My tactics and timing of the attack for the very end was successful, neither David nor Jochen has time for requital,“ confirmed Markus. “I hope to be equally successful in the race to come.“ David Vršecký had to cope with the first, even though only partial loss in Most. “Markus confirmed his experience and abilities. He has a lot to catch up with after Saturday. The rest of this Sunday will be very interesting.“

It is hard to say whether David Vršecký proved to be a good prognosticator. In the qualifying race interesting things only came in the beginning. Wile Markus Bösiger started without problems and disappeared in the distance, David struggled hard with Albacete and Hahn. “Nothing dramatic. Jochen and Antonio had to try,“ confirmed David, who eventually won the fight for the second position. And not only that. While he and Markus headed for another qualifying double, technical problems knocked out Hahn first and Albacete next. The advantage of Bösiger over the surprisingly third Altenstrasser thus increased with every completed round and amounted to more than 18 seconds in the finish, which is unprecedented in the truck racing history. “I could see David behind me and heard in my walkie talkie that I could slow down. But the truck somewhat continued to ride quickly on its own,“ stated Markus after the race. At the same time he added that his aim was to break the tradition of bad luck Sundays of Nogaro and Nürburgring. “I need to win, but David will certainly attempt at the same. I heard that our victories are boring for the spectators. But I like to win.“

The cup race was finally decided in favor of Markus Bösiger followed by the second David Vršecký. Markus thus returned to David his defeat of the previous day. In the words of the acting champion of the Old Continent the victory was a deserved result of very hard work. “I had David behind my back all the time. Due to his somewhat untypical braking while cornering he was right behind my mudguard after every curve,“ commented Markus the progress of the race, whose result allowed him to stay in the play for the champion title. “I feel very well and I will do my best in Zolder to cut off a slice of David ´s advantage.“

David Vršecký, the leader of the interim ranking since the very first championship race, was satisfied with his Sunday performance. “I have overcome my personal record in Most by gaining 54 points. There is time to attempt at the sixty, ideally in Zolder.“

The next race of the European Race Truck Championship 2008 will be held on 13 and 14 September in Zolder, where the Buggyra brand has not been defeated since 2004 in a single cup race!
