A big unknown in wet: Formánek and Záruba to race with Lamborghini on modified Zandvoort
Just two weeks after the first team victory in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series, Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra with Bronislav Formánek and Josef Záruba head to a Dutch circuit Zandvoort. They will race on a modified track and possibly in wet conditions. The target? To retain 3rd place in the standings or to even improve.

A mix of respect and expectations. That is how is the Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team feeling ahead of Round 03 of the prestigious Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series. On one hand, there is a memory of the first podium that the team has achieved in this series with Knoll and Záruba here in Zandvoort, two years ago. On the other hand, this weekend is probably going to offer rain and for Bronislav Formánek it will be a debut on the Formula 1 track.
“The advantage is how narrow the circuit is, so it’s not so difficult to find the ideal line. But it’s going to be fairly difficult, especially in rain,” says Formánek ahead of a race weekend.
Until now, his only experience of the track was on a professional simulator. But not even that is going to be a perfect preparation, as the drivers have only access to a last year’s version of the track. Now, the circuit offers two banked corners. And in this case, it is going to be the same for everyone. “We were planning some testing at Zandvoort, to get to know the place a bit before the race, but unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to find a date. So, we need to work even harder in practice,” describes the Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team manager Jiří Mičánek jr.
That means that the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe drivers will get a taste of the new circuit even sooner than Formula 1, which has a race scheduled in September. It is also interesting, that this track was on the first-ever Formula 1 calendar back in 1950.
Also, Josef Záruba is facing some challenges on this circuit, even despite he was in the original crew that brought the first podium for the Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team. “It’s a very difficult track, but in the past, we’ve seen that we can be fast here in rain as well. And we believe that we can do it again if it’s wet,” says Záruba.
After the first two rounds of the season and following the historic first win for the team just two weeks ago at Paul Ricard, the team and its Lamborghini Huracán currently holds 3rd place in the prestigious Pro-AM championship standings. “Our goal is to once again finish in TOP 3 in our category. To be on the podium and to gain some points. This season is looking very promising for us and every point count towards the championship battle,” ends Jiří Mičánek.
