Spa factor: Mičánek Motorsport Powered by Buggyra secures second place at the "cursed" circuit
The string of unfortunate races at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit has ended. The Mičánek Motorsport team powered by Buggyra clinched second place in the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series. Bronislav Formánek and Štefan Rosina won the first race, while the second race was prematurely terminated by a red flag.
Concurrently, the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series was part of the FIA WEC weekend. "Štefan and Broněk did a great job. Štefan started the race excellently, and Broněk managed to maintain competitiveness, securing second place," stated team manager Jiří Mičánek Jr.
The duo demonstrated cohesive performance, despite their differing sentiments about the circuit. "I love this track; I've known it for twenty years and love its speed," Rosina shared. His qualifying prowess only slightly marred by a penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
Conversely, for Bronislav Formánek, the Spa circuit is less favorable. "I'm really pleased with the second place. Spa is, on paper, our weakest track. It can only get better from here," commented Formánek.
In the prematurely halted second race, Formánek and Rosina officially finished sixth. However, most of the fifty-minute race was conducted under various flags, predominantly behind the safety car, until race direction suspended and ultimately called off the race due to time constraints. "We're officially sixth, but it's unclear if full points will be awarded or reduced. After the first race, we led the Pro-Am class in the championship standings, and now we await the final results," Mičánek explained the following day.
The junior team, consisting of Jáchym Galáš and Matěj Pavlíček, also gained valuable experience at Spa-Francorchamps. Despite the congested track, Galáš showed promise in qualifying, though he was unable to complete a clean lap due to slower cars preparing for fast laps. Pavlíček, unfamiliar with the track and having completed only a few fast laps in practice, faced challenges yet helped the team finish sixteenth in the elite PRO class in their first race.
In the second race, Pavlíček advanced several positions at the start but was hindered by the safety car and yellow flags. Shortly after handing over the car to Galáš, the race was stopped by a red flag. "I wish I could share something positive, but the weekend did not meet our expectations. The red flag in the second race was particularly disappointing, and it's unfortunate that the race was subsequently abandoned," Pavlíček reflected.
Looking ahead to the next race, which will be part of the FIA WEC during the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans, Jiří Mičánek is optimistic. "The Lamborghini Super Trofeo is the world’s most prestigious cup series, but currently, the large number of participants is proving challenging. I am hopeful that the next race will proceed smoothly, with minimal interruptions from race direction, allowing our on-track performance to shine," Mičánek concluded.
