On Saturday, he celebrated his first-ever victory in the TCR Eastern Europe series. On Sunday, he followed with a great recovery drive that took him from 9th to 3rd place. Michal Makeš from Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team used Slovakiaring to prove to his competitors, that he aims for the highest places.

Round 2 of the TCR Eastern Europe series has proven the strength of Cupra Leon cars once again. Despite a maximum ballast of 60 kilograms, the Spanish cars dominated the whole grid. Tomáš Pekař, who was unstoppable on the first weekend, took the pole position for the opening race of the weekend, ahead of Michal Makeš. However, Pekař made a mistake in the first lap and the 21-year-old driving for the Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team took the lead and did not let anyone take it away from him.

“It was an average start for me, but then Milović made a mistake and I got to 2nd position. Then Tomáš Pekař did something similar and I moved into the lead. After that, there was a big battle for the 2nd place behind me, so I just focused on creating a gap and then it was just about avoiding errors,” described Makeš the first race. “To me, it’s the most valuable victory of my career, so far,” he added right after the race.

However, right after the podium, he made his life difficult for the following day. As a race winner, he had a right to do a lottery pick. This rule decides how many places on the grid will be part of the reverse grid order. Between numbers 6 and 10, he had an unfortunate pick of 9.

Luckily, that did not stop Makeš. “I managed to burn my clutch in a warm-up, so I couldn’t start properly. After that, it took me a long time to make my way forward. Meanwhile, Tomáš Pekař got into the lead, and he quickly built a gap. Maybe, we could have been 2nd in the end, but I’ve got no regrets. I had to fight a lot, I had fun racing and I’ve learnt a lot today. It was great fun also for those who watched the live stream,” said Makeš, who managed to cross the finish line in 3rd place in the end.

“It was a very successful weekend overall, and also for Michal, who was consistent and didn’t make any mistakes. Also, the team, led by my brother Tomáš, did a great job preparing the car. For us, these results mean that we’re going in the right direction and the competitors know that they have to count with us,” said Jiří Mičánek ml., the Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra team manager.

After a successful weekend, Makeš currently holds 2nd place in the championship standings, he is just 16 points behind the leader Tomáš Pekař. The TCR Eastern Europe series continues in Poznan in five weeks.

Testing at Brno: 500 kilometres and valuable data

While the team was at Slovakiaring, racing with a Cupra car, two Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO cars went to Brno for testing. “We did 500 kilometres and we’ve gained lots of valuable data. We’re going to try to use them at Paul Ricard, during the next round of Lamborghini Super Trofeo in two weeks. Also, it was a good opportunity to try next drivers,“ said Jiří Mičánek.
