Vršecký does not Mind Assen!
Even though unlike the past four seasons this European Truck Racing Championship season will most likely open in the Dutch Assen in the first week in May, the acting champion of the Old Continent has accepted the change of organizer of the opening racing weekends of European Cup with stoic calmness. And yet in seasons 2005-2008 the championship always began in Barcelona and for David the Catalonian capital meant four victories in the four years.
Despite that he says has no reason for unease. "To tell the truth it is all the same to me where we will begin. Maybe I would not like to start in Jarama, for understandable reasons," said Vršecký in reaction to the change in the championship schedule. "In addition, from the statistical point of view my results have been better in Assen than in Barcelona. I only started once on the former track, in 2004, and I managed to win then. It was my last season in the Super Race Truck class. It was raining all the time then, I was followed by Ludovic Faure, which meant a double for Buggyra. I would obviously not be against the same scenario this year again." As Assen has hosted just a single race of European Race Truck Cup to date David has a chance to become the only driver celebrating triumph in both classes on this tract, known mainly as a host of races of world championships of road motorcycles. So far he has managed the same at the Nürburgring track. "As I did not win a race in the SRT class in any other venue I have no other chance. I have won five opening races of the season in a row and so I cannot see a reason why the row should not continue with a sixth victory this year," reacted David laughing.
